Inspiration
This interactive installation is based on data from a 20-year renaturation project in the Swiss Reusstal region, conducted by the Canton of Aargau (EAWAG). The dataset includes the creation of 228 amphibian spawning sites and population developments of two endangered amphibian species. The project was a big success, with news reports even coming from across the borders.
Process
We worked for eight weeks on data and design research, built a setup using one projector and one camera to track body movements, coded visuals with P5.js, and created physical buttons to switch between a timeline view («Coordinates-View») and an interactive site selection grid («Grid-View»).
Result
Developed within two academic modules, the project combines ecological data with interactive media to communicate the impact of habitat restoration through spatial and user-responsive visualization.
